I kept losing my screenshots. My notes were all over the place too, and at some point I got tired of it and built this.
I'm Murtaza, an application developer. WebPad Studio is my side project.
It sits in Chrome's side panel, so the notebook stays open when you change tabs. Press Snip, click the part of the page you want, and it lands in your note with a link back to where it came from. You can write or draw on top of it. A page can also be a sketch, a table, a deck or a PDF you mark up. When you need it elsewhere, it exports: PDF and Word for notes, PPTX for decks, PNG and SVG for drawings.
It's free, and I don't plan to charge for basics like export and sync. Your notes stay in your browser, and you don't need an account. If you want them on another device, they can sync to your own Google Drive. The only time anything reaches my server is when you share a page as a link.
Some honest limits:
There's no AI in it and no real-time collaboration.
Clicking on a part of a page and keeping its source link needs the extension. In the web version at webpad.studio, Snip uses your computer's own screenshot tool: on Windows it opens the Snipping Tool, on a Mac it shows you the keys. Then you paste the picture into your note, without a source link.
Notes live in the browser, so clearing browser data without Drive sync or a backup file deletes them.
Around 43 people use it so far, so you'll hit rough edges.
Where do your screenshots end up today? And if you try it, tell me the first thing that annoyed you.
