A while ago, I shared a small wallpaper switcher I built. I've now updated it to support live video wallpapers (MP4/WebM), so I wanted to share the new version.
I love the clean, floating aesthetic of Linux desktop setups like Hyprland, and I wanted something similar for Windows: a simple dock for quickly browsing and switching between static and video wallpapers.
Here's what WallpaperBar Pro does:
Live Video Wallpapers: Play MP4/WebM videos behind your desktop icons.
Floating Glass-Style Dock: A sleek bar that slides up from the bottom of your screen.
Global Hotkey: Press Ctrl+Alt+Q from anywhere to show or hide the bar.
Automatic Restore: Remembers your last applied wallpaper and restores it when Windows starts.
System Tray: Runs quietly in the background until you need it.
Drag and Drop: Easily reorder your wallpaper collection.
Offline and Ad-Free: No telemetry, no ads, and no internet connection required after installation.
Pricing: A one-time purchase on the Microsoft Store, with no subscriptions. I chose the Store's lowest paid price tier to help support development and distribution.
Built with Python (PySide6) and a custom C++ component, with WebView2 handling video playback.
I'd appreciate feedback, especially on the UI, memory usage, and video playback performance. What would you improve?
