Hi Product Hunt community,
When I lived in Canada, there was something really clever called Walk Score, which showed for any address how walkable it was to daily needs. I thought that was really great. Now that I've lived in Europe for several years, I haven't found a solid alternative.
That's why I decided to build Walkably.
You can just type an address, zoom the map in and out, and it'll show you a score from 0 to 100. Once you click into it, it shows you the daily needs and reasons. Reach accounts for 60% of the score, and street quality accounts for the other 40% (how pleasant the streets are, whether they have shading, etc.). Reach covers eight daily needs.
We just built a free MCP server for AI assistants. We also launched the map in 24 languages recently, and we are now working on building city pages. We already have more than 400 city pages with good data on our scores; for instance, districts that are highly populated but might be poor in one category or another. All these pages have a CSV table available to download for free as well.
We did lots of checks on accuracy and quality, comparing our results to public datasets and census data. We have a pretty rigorous quality process, so we only push things live when we're confident that they are accurate. We also do offline checks in the real world to verify. This doesn't mean the data is perfect: there are limitations from the underlying datasets and documenting the real world will always lag somewhat behind reality. We're continuously working to improve the score and the product, and suggestions are more than welcome! :)
Give it a shot and enter your own address or any address you're curious about. If you're outside Europe, let me know what city you would most want next, or let me know if you find anything that looks wrong. There's a "Report a wrong score" button on the map, or you can reach out via email at hello@walkably.org.
If you want this in a product or for a business use case, feel free to write to hello@walkably.org. For research, journalism, and governments, the data is free, including data at scale through our API.
