Hi Product Hunt, I’m Uman, the founder of VPNDetection!
I spent years building IP data as a lead engineer at IPinfo, and started VPNDetection this year to answer one question well: whether an IP address is a VPN, with the evidence behind the answer.
A VPN flag on its own is hard to act on, so we name the operator behind it. Look up 146.70.116.130 and you get Mullvad, running on M247 in Vienna, with high confidence and the day we last saw it. The same lookup says whether the address is a residential, datacenter, mobile or public proxy, a Tor node, a privacy relay like iCloud
Private Relay, a CDN or a hosting server. The data is rebuilt every day.
There are SDKs for 13 languages and 15 frameworks, a CLI, an MCP server you can add to Claude or ChatGPT, and plugins for WordPress and Minecraft. If you’d rather run lookups on your own servers, the databases come as MMDB and CSV.
The free plan is 50,000 lookups a month with no card, and answers the VPN, Tor and relay flags with location and ASN. Paid plans start at $19 a month, and every one answers every field.
The quickest test: turn on your VPN and open vpndetection.io/myip. If we name the wrong provider or miss yours, tell me which one here and I’ll look into it.
