VoteMate is a website that cuts through the politicking and insult-throwing of the Canadian election to concentrate on the policies you care about. It allows you to select the issues you care about, then see the policies from every party on just those issues.
A few weeks ago, I was amazed to watch the Global Climate Strike bring young people to the streets across all of Canada. Young people who have heard all their life that they're lazy, uninformed, cynical, and uncaring about politics. Yet there they were, engaging in a way that most citizens, young and old, minority or majority, never ever do.
I've known for a long time that one of the biggest reasons why people don't vote is they don't know enough about where each party - or each candidate - stands. We live in a busy world, and once you reach 18, you've got a lot more to worry about than politics. Party websites are confusing, they're full of political gobbledygook, and in the end, they're not at all useful.
That's where VoteMate comes in. VoteMate is a website you can use to check out the parties even just on the way to the polls. It has every policy on every issue from every major party, along with policies and biographies from many of the candidates. And best of all, it lets you decide what you want to look at, keeping the rest of the information down beneath a Read More. You select what you care about and VoteMate does the rest.
I believe that VoteMate respresents the future of politics: A future where people vote not based on the politicking but based on the policies. A future where politicians campaign not with rhetoric, but with real ideas. And a future where we all share a single reality and where voting really does matter to everyone.
The election is October 21st. Let's get informed.
PS: I'm running VoteMate for the Canadian federal election, but I'd love to hear from people who would like to bring it to their country too! And hey, if you're in the States, let me know how you'd feel about something like VoteMate during your elections next year as well (and maybe send VoteMate to your Canadian friends!).
