Hold a key, speak, release. Free, private speech-to-text and dictation for macOS, powered by Whisper. Types wherever your cursor is; nothing leaves your Mac.

Hi everyone 👋
I built VoiceNoodler because I believe dictation shouldn’t mean paying for yet another subscription.
Many AI dictation tools offer free plans, but those plans often come with usage limits. Once you hit them, you may need to upgrade just to keep dictating. I wanted a different approach.
Your Mac is powerful enough to run AI. Why keep paying a subscription to use it?
VoiceNoodler is a free, powered by OpenAI Whisper models dictation app for macOS. Hold a hotkey, speak, release it, and your words appear wherever your cursor is, whether you’re writing an email, taking notes, or working in a document.
What matters to me:
Free to use — no subscription required, no account required.
Local speech recognition — designed to keep audio processing on your Mac.
System-wide dictation — speak directly into the apps you already use.
Privacy by design — less dependence on sending your voice to remote services.
I built this because I think people should be able to make better use of the hardware they already own, instead of being pushed into recurring payments and usage quotas for everyday tools.
VoiceNoodler is publicly available now, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’d especially love your feedback: What would make you switch from your current dictation tool? Is it pricing, privacy, accuracy, speed, or something else?
Btw, it's currently available only as a native Mac app. However, I plan to release it for Windows and Linux soon.
