Hey Tyler, I think this is an interesting concept. You would really need to work with your local - and all - EMS providers (fire & ambulance services) in order for them to get on board - I probably would not use my personal cell phone to call or text a number in relation to a patient. A lot of risks from a patient confidentiality stand point, how do you address HIPAA protected information like medical history, allergies, and prescription medications being sent to the right person?

Hey Kurtis, great question! We've been talking to a lot of fire and ambulance services and many of them are keeping department phones in their vehicles, so those phones can be used. We've had very positive feedback from them.
As for the user's information, the bio that is sent is 160 characters and isn't designed to deliver full medical information and we don't require any medical information to be provided. The only person that will receive the information is the person that texts up their ID and we recommend that they only share information that they are comfortable sharing.

To specifically address the HIPAA question, we are not a covered entity and are not bound by HIPAA. This is especially true due to the fact that the consumer is choosing to share the information and the consumer is not a covered entity and can choose to share their information as they wish.
