I tried to answer a simple question — "how much does it actually cost to move to Australia?" — and fell into a rabbit hole.
The information exists. It's just scattered across dozens of government sites, buried in PDFs, quoted in different currencies, and usually out of date.
So we pulled the official numbers for every major visa across 21 countries into one place. A few things that surprised me:
→ The application fee is almost never the real cost. Australia's 189 visa is ~AUD $4,900 on paper — far more once you add skills assessment, English test, medicals and dependants.
→ Processing times vary far more than fees. The same country can clear one visa in weeks and another in over a year. Completeness of your file is the biggest factor you control.
→ The hard part is never "which visas exist" — it's "what's the difference between these two?" (189 vs 190 vs 491, H-1B vs L-1 vs O-1, Portugal's D7 vs D8...)
→ Most permanent residence is reached through a temporary visa first. The right first step matters more than the "best" visa.
We made the whole comparison free, with every figure linked to its official source: https://visachief.com

How current is the data on processing times, and do you pull directly from each country's official immigration site or aggregate from third-party sources?

Finally a clean way to compare visa costs and timelines across countries instead of digging through 20 government pages, the eligibility filters actually saved me some real time.
