Haha this is amazing - a lot of creative people will surely be super excited about this monetization scheme for their content.
I love the fact that you can interact with the objects - how customizable is that? For example if I place a starbucks cup on my table and there is a fire on my pants, can I use the coffee to stop from burning my precious ones?
Thanks for pushing the wheel forward!
@orliesaurus Hey Orlie - you made us laugh. Theoretically AND technically it would be possible to save ur pants with the starbucks cup but I would check if the coffee is cold beforehand. Otherwise you would get burned twice 😉
In the end the possibilities are limited by the brand or publisher :)!

How did you arrive at your pricing? $10 CPM is an interesting starting point. Also, do you have any advertisers or publishers yet?
@joshtodd Based on our experiences. We compared it with normal and influencer network cpms. 10$ is the start and goes up with the KPI :)!
And right now we run test campaigns with publishers like PoolNation VR and advertisers.

@philippsteuer and team: Congratulations on this very interesting product/idea.
I was wondering how you decide which products will be served into the placeholder. Is it solely based on the size/scale of the placeholder? Or can I as a publisher also limit which objects are allowed inside the placeholders - for example one would not want a coke bottle pop up in a medieval environment...
@stefan_fleig Hi Stefan, thx for your question. You as a publisher are in control which objects will be displayed. You can choose one by one or by category / other filters.

@philippsteuer thanks - one last question: I imagine there are other companies offering the same or similar kind of product placement for traditional non-VR games/content made in Unity/Unreal for some time now. Is your focus on VR purely strategic/marketing-based or is there a technological component to it?
@stefan_fleig To be honest - our solution works also for non-VR content. But we focused on VR & AR because there are a lot of challenges to solve (how will a user interact with objects in VR / how to place it and dont disturb the immersion). And we like to solve challenges :)!

1) how are you solving your chicken and egg problem (advertiser vs publishers population growth) when starting your network?
2) how are you going to succeed while others in product placement native ad networks such as Mediaspike have failed. The only ones have some success are doing more marginally-native-ish ads in a frame.
@jabcrosshook Hi :)
1) We are solving the checken and egg problem by talking to publishers first and approaching advertisers with the available ad space afterwards.
2) We will succeed because we stay lean and flexible. We test a lot and asking for feedback to build the best platform and VR & AR ad formats that publishers and advertisers want.
Hi Product Hunters,
My name is Philipp Steuer and I am one of the co-founders of VIRE. We want to protect the upcoming Virtual and Augmented Worlds from horrible advertising. With VIRE you can monetize, advertise and track every Virtual and Augmented Reality content in an easy and user-friendly way.
If you are a publisher, you can define placeholders inside your game, app or 360 degree video with our plugins for Unreal and Unity. When a user loads the game, these placeholders are replaced by branded products.
As a company or advertiser you can fill in these placeholders with any objects of your choice. VIRE tracks views and interactions with the objects for you.
Status quo: We launched our marketplace (http://vire.co/marketplace) where you can easily integrate some first objects and get paid for every view.
In addition to that we support everyone with a free performance friendly tracking (FOV views, normal views, interactions) for free!
Because we are a young company I wanted to take the chance to collect your feedback :) Feel free to ask any question, I will answer them below.
Thanks a lot for time!
Best from Cologne, Germany

@philippsteuer I find this really interesting. It makes me want to produce some viral VR content to see how well this sort of thing works.
Product placement is making a comeback and this is a great way to tap into a quickly growing market
Edit: Follow-up question: do Steam/Oculus store have any policies preventing you from putting paid promotion in the games/experiences you list on their stores?
@rossdcurrie Hi Ross :) You are welcome, let me know when your viral content is ready. Would love to support you!
Nope, there aren't any restrictions in the steam / oculus store. We build easy to use plugins for the most used game engines and you just need to install it and drag placeholders into your game / scene. Afterwards you connect it with the platform. Thats it and in the end there's no difference between "our" branded objects and a normal 3D object :)!
