Hey Product Hunt maker here.
Quick honest note up top: VidPrompter has been live on the App Store and Google Play for 2 months. I'm bringing it here because the people on PH care about the kind of thing I obsessed over building it, and I want their eyes on it before I start the next round of work.
I built this because my friend's wife was putting together a birthday video for him, one of those compilations where 20 people each send a 30-second clip.
She asked me for mine. I sat down, hit record, blanked, started over. By take seven I was forgetting what to say mid-sentence. I never sent it.
That weekend I realized every "free" teleprompter app paywalled the camera, capped recording at 60 seconds, or stuttered on Android. So I wrote my own.
The thing I'm most proud of, and the part most teleprompter apps fake: a custom 60fps scroll engine on requestAnimationFrame instead of leaning on a generic animation library. It stays glass-smooth on a 4-year-old Android phone. The other piece I had to build from scratch was the native watermark module, iOS AVFoundation + Android MediaCodec, so the free-tier export bakes in a small VidPrompter mark instead of doing it as a post-process overlay (which any kid with ffmpeg can strip).
Free tier: unlimited recording, no ads, no account, scripts and videos stay on your phone. Pro removes the watermark and adds a custom color picker. That's the whole pricing page.
What's next: voice-tracking scroll (the one feature PromptSmart actually does well), import from Google Docs, and a desktop companion.
I'd love to hear: what's the first thing that broke for you in another teleprompter app? I'll be here all day answering, bring the rough edges.
