The Surgeon General called loneliness an epidemic. We built an answer. Velour finds real people doing real things near you — hiking, cooking, board games, yoga — in person, in your city. No algorithm. No feed. No followers. Just small groups (max 12) showing up together. Because 847 connections online doesn't mean you have someone to grab dinner with.
Hey PH! I'm Matt, the maker of Velour.
I built this because I kept reading about the loneliness epidemic and realized that every "solution" was just... another app that kept you on a screen. Velour is the opposite: it exists to get you off your phone and into a room with real humans doing something you both enjoy.
The core idea is dead simple — shared activities are how friendships actually form. Not profiles, not DMs, not feeds. You just show up, do the thing, and talk to people who showed up too.
A few things I'd love your feedback on:
Does the onboarding feel light enough? (We deliberately ask almost nothing)
What activities would you want to see in your city?
Would you host a gathering? What's your hesitation?
Happy to answer anything. And if you're in Omaha — come find me at a board game night.
