Hi Product Hunt, I'm Garunya, and I built Vel.

I wanted dictation that is private. You hold a shortcut (⌥ Space by default), speak, and your words are transcribed on your Mac by an on-device Whisper model. Then they're copied to the clipboard, ready to paste with ⌘V. Your voice and your words never leave your Mac. There's no account and no cloud, and it works offline.

A few things I care about:

• It learns your words. Correct a name once and Vel spells it right next time.

• It works best in 15 languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese, Hindi and Tamil.

• Hold to talk, or double-tap for hands-free. You pick the shortcut.

Good to know: it needs a Mac with Apple silicon, and the speech model (about 460 MB) downloads once, the first time you open it. Vel is free to download, with a weekly word limit on the free plan, and Vel Unlimited is a one-time purchase.
