Working in one of startups that rely on Uploadcare for it’s daily product and marketing operations, I don’t know if I can be more satisfied with the product—but apparently this new file uploader will give us much more freedom to customize the user experience. I can’t help but ask… Why? Why would someone pay to use this when they can integrate supabase or Firebase easily and quickly for free? I’m reading the comments and can see an obvious market (if you didn’t buy the comments online) but maybe there’s something I’m missing… it’s a widget for uploading files… Is there something else I’m not mentioning? P.S. Not hating just very confused…

@vashon_lorona_gonzales I totally get where you’re coming from — I had similar thoughts back in 2022! What I didn’t realize at first is that the File Uploader is just the entry point in the full lifecycle of file handling with Uploadcare. Beyond uploading, we take care of secure storage, virus scanning, and then optimize the file for delivery with features like smart quality (reducing image quality without visible loss) and auto format (choosing the best image format based on the user’s browser). And these are just few examples. All of this happens automatically, with zero configuration needed on your end — and it’s all delivered via a global CDN for optimal performance. You could definitely build something similar yourself, but it depends on how much time and resources you’re willing to spend on development, testing, and maintenance. And just to clear up any confusion, we didn’t buy the comments — we’re a profitable business with a real user base who value the time-saving and hassle-free approach we offer. Hope that helps clarify a bit!

@owenfar your response doesn’t make much sense. Supabase and Firebase can be used for file uploading through their sdks for free. That was the point I was trying to make

Great question, @kyrylosilin! When it comes to performance, File Uploader has a major advantage with Transfer Acceleration, which can boost upload speeds by 50-500% for large files, especially over long distances. Essentially, instead of uploading directly to the final destination, files are first routed through a server closer to the user — this is where the speed gains come into play. Compared to building a file upload system from scratch, all of this happens automatically with zero configuration needed on the developer’s side. Our customers often don’t even realize it’s happening — but they see the results :-) Setting up something like this from scratch would involve significant time for research, development, testing, and ongoing maintenance. Hope this helps clarify!
