Most task apps reward you for checking boxes. Uphill doesn't. You complete tasks by dragging them uphill against haptic resistance. Heavier tasks push back harder. No confetti. No streaks you didn't ask for. No subscription. Also includes: a journaling mode that destroys everything you write, a 10-second zoom to the observable universe for bad days, and notifications like "The universe is 13.8 billion years old. Your deadline is Tuesday." $2.99 once. Free tier available.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Uphill because I kept deleting every task app I tried.
Not because they were bad — but because they were optimized to
make me feel like I was doing work instead of actually doing it.
The idea came from Camus' Myth of Sisyphus. Sisyphus pushes a boulder uphill. It rolls back. He pushes again. Camus argues that if Sisyphus accepts the pushing as the point - not the summit - there's no tragedy. Just work.
So I built a task manager around that. You physically push tasks uphill to complete them. There's no confetti when you finish. The task just disappears. That's it. On to the next one.
A few things I'm proud of:
- The haptic resistance on the push gesture. Premium users feel their heavy tasks push back harder than light ones. It took embarrassingly long to get right.
- The Void. Write anything. It dissolves when you submit. Nothing is saved, ever. A surprising number of testers said this became their most-used feature.
- The notifications. "You are a nervous system having opinions about fonts." "Sisyphus had a boulder. You have a phone. Same energy." All written by me, none generated.
Free to download. Happy to answer anything - about the app, the philosophy, or the implementation.
