Your AI usage in dollars and liters of water

From the local logs of Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, Unprompt shows your AI usage as tokens, dollars at API prices and liters of water. The Mac companion is free. On iPhone, Unprompt counts how often you use your AI apps, through Screen Time. Work hours are shown separately. Compare your month with friends. Today's tokens and cost are free. The 30-day card with water comes with Premium.

Reading from local logs is a smart call. I'd be way more hesitant if this needed my API keys or a proxy. Does anything leave the machine for the friends comparion, or is it just monthly totals?
I really support the initiative of being mindful about water usage, so this definitely has my upvote!
@kastelicjakob Thanks so much for the upvote! 🙏 That was exactly the idea: no API keys, no proxy, and conversation content is never read. Friends are opt-in and go through Apple's iCloud. By default they see your trend, not your exact numbers. Sharing those is a choice you make.
Awesome idea! Love the "no login no tracking" angle.
@julienmartin_ Thank you! 🙏 That was a starting point for me: an app about being mindful shouldn't ask for more than it needs. Hope you enjoy it!
the dollars number is honest about being API-price-not-your-bill, good call calling that out explicitly. the water number worries me more though - 4.9 L/kWh is one fixed average, but actual water use swings hard by which datacenter handled the request, what cooling design it uses, even the season. a token run in a region with free-air cooling could be near zero and one in a water-cooled summer-peak facility could be way above average, and the app has no way to know which one actually served you. so the dollar figure is a real lower bound and the water figure is more like a vibe. did you consider showing a range instead of one number, or flagging that it's a rough average rather than presenting both numbers with the same confidence
@galdayan Thanks for digging into the method! One nuance: the 4.9 L/kWh (LBNL 2024) is mostly not cooling. It's 0.36 L on site plus 4.52 L for generating the electricity, so free-air cooling would only remove a small slice. You're right that it varies with the grid mix and that the energy per token is itself an estimate. That's why the app presents water as an order of magnitude, not a measurement: the FAQ walks through both steps and their sources. The goal isn't precision. It's to make an invisible cost visible and let you compare yourself to yourself over time 🙏
