A DIY dev kit for hackers developing their own smart masks. It's engineered to be modular, and every component can be swapped out. Comes with two modules (one respirator, and one electronics for comms).
Hey this is cool. Do you have a video of how this works to make calls - like can you setup your phone to input via this as a microphone, but still use AirPods for output?
(and a small note as a regular human who doesn't like to scare people off when walking down the street, I think I might have second thoughts about walking around with something that says "UNDEAD" on the front but maybe that's just me!)

@jeremyburge unfortunately separating audio channels in iOS and Android is complex and not easily supported

@jeremyburge will record more videos in the coming days, but in the version we have for sale we do not expect to support AirPods. As Steve points out separating channels was too complex

@jeremyburge Hey Jeremy, this is a use case we already looked into, and as mentioned it's quite complicated as neither iOS nor Android allow selecting a separate microphone and headphones, like one can on a desktop OS, but we have a solution and will implement it in a future version.
In the meantime the current dev kit has a 3.5mm headphone jack allowing wired headphones to be connected to the mask to use in combination with the mask microphone.

There's so much potential here and I'm super hyped for the team behind this product. We're going to be wearing masks for a long time one way or another so why not make them custom to you and awesome in every way.

This is awesome and hyper relevant with or without covid. I’ve been looking for a proper mask for my bike commute in London for a LONG time. Mortal Combat concept next pls 🙏🙏

Very cool! I can see this being the standard on top of which all manner of smart masks are built. Bravo!

This product was born out of our frustration of not finding reference hardware to develop custom smart masks. There are plenty of masks out there, but nothing available for people like us that wanted to add sensors, microphones, or swap filter types. So we made one and it's launching today.
