UKIYO-E VIEWFINDER KYOTO is a browser-based travel experience that lets you compare authentic ukiyo-e prints with present-day Kyoto. Choose a historic location, visit the spot, and use your phone’s camera to align the modern scenery with the original artwork. You can then create, save, and share your own Kyoto “Then & Now” image. No app installation is required. Travelers can explore three locations for free.

I created UKIYO-E VIEWFINDER KYOTO to help travelers experience Kyoto across time.
The idea is simple: choose a historic location, visit the actual place, align your camera with an ukiyo-e print, and create your own “Then & Now” image.
I built this because I wanted people to do more than simply look at old artwork. I wanted them to stand in the same place, compare the past with the present, and create something they could share.
