I'm Kevin, one of the founder behind Ugly Baby.
Over the last decade, I've worked in venture capital across Europe, reviewed thousands of startups, debated in investment committees, and helped deploy capital into early-stage companies.
Throughout that journey, I kept seeing the same pattern repeat itself. Most founders believe fundraising is primarily about building a pitch deck, while investors are trying to determine whether there is a compelling investment opportunity behind the business. The result is that founders spend months refining slides and narratives while investors are evaluating, venture-scale potential, ownership outcomes, fund return scenarios, distribution advantages, competitive positioning, and exit opportunities. Founders that speak that language win, others loose.
The reality is that many startups don't fail to raise because of a bad pitch. They struggle because they don't speak the underlying mathematics and mechanics of venture capital. Venture investors are not looking for good businesses. They are looking for businesses capable of producing returns that fit within the economics of a venture fund. Those are very different conversations, and most founders never get visibility into how those decisions are actually made.
So we built Ugly Baby to close that gap.
The idea was simple: what if founders could evaluate their own company using the same frameworks investors use internally? What if they could see the strengths, weaknesses, risks, and opportunities in their case before spending months fundraising? What if they could understand how an investor would write the internal memo before the first meeting even happens?
Today, Ugly Baby helps founders analyze their company through a VC underwriting lens, generate a full investment case, identify due diligence risks, build a fundraising strategy, and access a database of more than 10,000 investors. The objective is not to help founders create prettier decks. The objective is to help them understand whether they have a venture-backable opportunity and how to communicate that opportunity more effectively.
