A macOS menu-bar coach that asks for one 60-second typing drill a few times a day, only when you are already at the keyboard. A per-key model weights each drill toward your slowest keys, with a live heatmap. Local, no account, free.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Son. I make small, single-purpose apps under the name usefulisms. Earlier this month some of you tried Global Overlap; this is the second one.
I built Typecoach because I kept meaning to practise typing and never opened a typing site. Twenty-minute sessions were never going to happen. One minute, a few times a day, might.
So Typecoach sits in the macOS menu bar and asks for a single 60-second drill now and then, but only when you are already at the keyboard. If you are away, it waits. The drill is timed from your first keystroke.
Each drill updates a per-key model of your accuracy and speed, and the next drill leans on whichever keys are currently slowing you down. As one key improves, the weight moves on to the next. A live heatmap shows the same model, so you can see where you are slow.
It runs entirely on your Mac: no account, no server, no tracking. It needs Apple Silicon and macOS 11 or newer, and it is signed and notarized, shipped as a .dmg from GitHub. It is free.
The flip side of no tracking is that I have no usage data, so this thread is how I learn what works. Does the weighting match where you feel slow, and what would you want it to track that it does not?
