Play Type Piano with a computer keyboard, MIDI controller, or full on-screen keyboard. Its sampled grand, felt piano, electric piano, and glassy synth all respond to velocity and sustain. The desktop app is free—no account, browser tab, DAW, or paid tier.
Saving custom velocity curves would be a great add, especially for switching between the felt piano and the synth since they feel totally different under the fingers. Could be a small dropdown right by the instrument selector.

@kodal60945 That makes a lot of sense. The felt piano and synth can respond very differently to the same playing style, so having separate saved velocity curves for each instrument would make switching between them much smoother. A small preset dropdown beside the instrument selector sounds like a very natural place for it. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion!
The fact that velocity and sustain actually respond on an on-screen keyboard is a really thoughtful touch, feels way more musical than the clicky toy pianos I usually bounce off of. Appreciate the no-account thing too, just download and play.

@eraysmzp Thanks, Eray! I really wanted the keyboard to feel expressive rather than like a row of buttons, so velocity and sustain were important from the beginning. And yes, no account, no setup ritual, just open it and play.
the felt piano sounds really warm and the velocity response feels natural, makes typing on a regular keyboard feel weirdly musical

@devran1288046 Thanks, Devran! I spent a lot of time trying to keep the felt piano warm without making it muddy, so I’m glad that came through. It’s surprising how musical a regular computer keyboard can feel once the velocity response is working properly.
