Hi Product Hunt! I'm Malik, the maker of Tunanuki. I lived in Japan for two years and found learning to speak Japanese surprisingly hard. Classes didn't click, I couldn't stay consistent with textbooks, and I got stuck around N3. What changed things was discovering shadowing (repeating native audio a split second behind the speaker) and Krashen's ideas about comprehensible input. I wanted a tool that combined shadowing with the daily structure of an app like WaniKani, so I built Tunanuki: • Real voices only. A Japanese friend who works as a translator wrote the dialogues, and I auditioned professional voice actors to record them. Native speakers I asked could easily tell AI voices apart, so no AI audio. • Three steps per dialogue: listen, shadow with the script, then shadow without it. • Line-by-line replay, slower playback, furigana and English translations. It's in beta: Level 1 (beginner) is free and available now, and more levels are coming. I'd love your honest feedback, especially from anyone learning Japanese.
