Truco is the card game Brazilians play at every bar table. Truco Online brings it to the browser: Paulista and Mineiro variants, real-time multiplayer or bots, no download and no signup, plus full rules, hand signals and strategy guides for each variant.
Hi Product Hunt!
Truco is to Brazil what poker is to Vegas - the game people play at bar tables, family lunches and truck stops, with its own slang, hand signals and regional rule sets that change from state to state. There are dozens of apps for it, but almost all are ad-heavy, require an account, or quietly push real-money betting.
I built Truco Online as the opposite of that: open the page and you are playing. No download, no signup, no ads, no gambling.
What is in it:
- Truco Paulista and Truco Mineiro, with the correct card hierarchy and scoring for each
- Real-time multiplayer: quick match, private rooms by code, or 2v2 with a partner
- Three CPU difficulty levels for when you just want to play alone
- Hand signals for your partner, table voices and trash talk, because that is half of truco
- A full reference section: official rules per variant, what manilhas and the vira are, a glossary of table terms and strategy guides
The rules engine was the hard part. Truco is not one game - Paulista scores 1-3-6-9-12, Mineiro classico goes 2-4-6-10-12, and the house variant changes it again. Getting each one right, including edge cases like mao de ferro and mao de onze, took more iterations than the multiplayer did.
It is free and it stays free. Would love feedback, especially from anyone who grew up playing.
