Flashback is a free iOS app that turns idle scroll time into something worth remembering. Every card is a real person or event that shaped the world — told in plain language. 1,800+ cards from 15+ countries. A new Today in History card pinned every morning. 50 Deep Dive long-form articles (WWII, Genghis Khan, Fall of Rome). Daily 7 PM history reminder. No accounts. Works offline. Free. History worth knowing.
I built Flashback because I kept doom scrolling and learning nothing. I'm a developer, not a historian, so I built the app I actually wanted to use.
The whole thing is a SwiftUI feed backed by a SQLite DB I built with a Python ETL pipeline. Cards are enriched with Wikipedia + Wikidata, then GPT writes the "why it matters" for each one. 1,782 cards across 15+ countries so far.
The newest feature is Deep Dive, 50+ long-form articles that show how historical moments connect to each other. Tap World War II, see the Treaty of Versailles as a root cause, tap that, keep going.
It's free, no accounts, works offline. Would love feedback from this community — especially on what history topics feel missing.
