๐Ÿ‘‹ Hi Product Hunters, I'm here today with a FREE tool I've built to help out with ever-growing video file sizes.๐Ÿ›  The main inspiration for building TinyVid came from trying to share gameplay footage over Discord. For example, instant replay files are usually 5 minutes long and up to 2GB in size. Typically, the interesting parts are at the end and Discord Free only allows you to upload max 8MB at a time - soooo frustrating! ๐Ÿ˜ค I could not find any free tool that would quickly allow me to trim and compress ๐Ÿ—œ๏ธ my video while showing me a preview and allowing me to select the file size I need. (Hey, if you know one, please link it in the comments below!) Video file size limits are part and parcel of today's freemium services. They are a balance between having the service for free or not having it at all. Weโ€™ve included some helpful presets like Discord Free, Discord Nitro, WhatsApp - what preset sizes would you like to see? We've used TinyVid as an internal tool at @Kamua where we've discovered some useful scenarios, like sending videos via WhatsApp, which has a 64MB limit. Today, we're amped to share it with you too! Other useful things that are not currently available but will be (especially if you agree): ๐Ÿ“Œ Support for previewing more file types (mp4 / mov and webm for now) ๐Ÿ“Œ Support for encoding H265 ๐Ÿ“Œ Support for encoding AV1 ๐Ÿ“Œ Support for hardware encoding (Nvidia NVENC) on Windows ๐Ÿ“Œ A queue for batching file processing (especially useful when you're trying to archive some footage for storage) Let me know what other things you would find useful! We hope our users at Kamua will find this useful for pre-selecting the clips they want to crop and auto-generate captions for in our web tools, before uploading. Iโ€™ll be here all day along with my colleagues @eek and @prcary to answer any questions you might have. Thank you for stopping by!

@kamua @eek @prcary @stefangab95 Thanks for sharing great free tools! And Congrats on the launch! ๐Ÿš€

@bochkovaleks thank you for checking it out!

@kamua Congratulations on the launch! If you could build a similar solution for documents, Then you could be solving this need gap - 'Reduce document file size to specific size' posted on my problem validation platform - https://needgap.com/problems/196....

This app is so handy. As a video editor, you just can't get decent quality video out of Adobe Premiere at low file sizes. This will be my go-to app from now on, when having to deliver high quality video at impossibly low file sizes.
ศ˜tefan-Gabriel M
Thanks @jimh! We have some automation options planned: batching files and watching a folder for new videos to automatically process. Would you find that useful?
Jim Harrison
@stefangab95 Definitely! Batch processing and watch folders would be amazing. A lot of the time I have to deliver in multiple aspect ratios, so queueing them up or dragging into a folder would be super useful! I'm actually excited now haha ๐Ÿคฉ
Sassun
NICE! This is what I was looking for previously. I will try it for my next project and give you detailed feedback :)
ศ˜tefan-Gabriel M
@sassun thanks! all feedback is appreciated! What parts of TinyVid would you use for your project? Trimming, compression, downscaling or all of them ๐Ÿ˜€?
Sassun
@stefangab95 Actually all of them :D
Bogdan Ionita
Congrats on the launch!

@bogdan_ionita thank youโœŒ๏ธ
Ivanna Wendel
Awesome tool for video makers! Congrats on the launch!
ศ˜tefan-Gabriel M
Thanks @ivanna_wendel ! I'm glad you like the tool
Shachin Bharadwaj
Do you plan to have APIs to support other services to use your product?
ศ˜tefan-Gabriel M
Hey @shachinb1, since this is a desktop app, I think the most we could do is have a protocol so that other apps can ask TinyVid to process videos (maybe even on their behalf). If you're looking for a Web API, we're also planning to add similar features to https://kamua.com 's API in the future. Please let me know if this answered your question
Shachin Bharadwaj
@stefangab95 Thanks... this helps. Was looking for the Web API
Radu-Sebastian Amarie (Eek)
Looking forward to that AV1 support, so I can put my puppies (all 8 cores in my 5900HX CPU) to work during the weekends and get my wedding footage down from 32GB to 5GB (ar maybe even less? haha) so I can pay less to Google when I'll upload it to Google Photos. Haha! :D Great work @stefangab95 !!
Jim Harrison
@eek Whaaaaat? 32GB? That must have been one high quality wedding! ๐Ÿ˜„
Radu-Sebastian Amarie (Eek)
@jimh Sorry, 27.7GB, it's 4K at 40259kbps :D (1h and 38 mins)
