Private nudges that move Slack channel replies into threads

Replies posted as new channel messages kill context. Thread Police spots them and privately nudges the author. One click on "Move to thread" reposts it in the right thread under their name and avatar. Nobody else sees a thing, and anyone can opt out. Free, open source (MIT), private, self-hosted, and no telemetry. Runs on your own machine or server, needs no public URL, and never stores message content. Paste one prompt into your AI agent and it does the whole setup.

If you’ve ever onboarded a company onto Slack you’ll know the pain of trying to get them to use threads. Users who are not familiar with Slack use channels like they're WhatsApp or iMessage groups and eventually they start drowning in disconnected, no-context replies. It’s also super confusing and annoying for those trying to only get pinged on stuff they need to see.
Even when users are pretty familiar with Slack they often still forget. It’s understandable.
I crafted Thread Police to silently nudge users to thread a reply to the right place.
It uses a Jev-like system one decision model (which can also be self-hosted) to instantly figure out if a channel message should be in a thread and privately (“Only visible to you”) offers to move it for the user which they can do with one button click.
There are no public call-outs. A cooldown means nobody gets nagged, and `/threadpolice off` turns it off for anyone who’d rather not. `/threadpolice` stats shows whether the nudges are landing.
It's privacy-first, runs on your own machine or server over Socket Mode, in a container if needed, keeps only a short rolling window of messages in memory, and never stores message text. You can even point it at a model you host yourself.
You can set it up in one prompt. Paste `AGENT_SETUP.md` into your agent and it creates the private Slack app, collects the keys and starts the bot.
It’s free and MIT-licensed.
It's working well on two Slack workspaces of mine and I'd love to hear from you guys if you use it!
Also PRs welcome!
Slack gets messy quick, i've been working in a 500 person org and it's people just don't have any respect for the thread guidelines :) Cool app, congrats on the launch!
@victor_metelskiy You feel my pain!
