thekharcha is a free, private envelope-budgeting app built for India. It never connects to your bank โ you log UPI, cash and card spends by hand, split your income into category envelopes, and give every rupee a job. Your money data stays yours.

Hey hunters ๐
I'm Ritesh, and I built thekharcha because every budgeting app I tried wanted to log into my bank account. I get why โ auto-sync is convenient. But it also means handing over your financial life to a third party, and (for me) it killed the one thing budgeting is supposed to do: make you notice your spending.
So I went the other way. thekharcha is manual on purpose and never syncs with your bank:
๐ Envelope method โ split your income into category envelopes (rent, groceries, eating out, SIPsโฆ) and give every rupee a job before you spend it.
โ๏ธ You log each spend โ UPI, cash, card, EMI. That two-second friction is the feature. It's what makes you think twice.
๐ฎ๐ณ Built for India โ โน in lakhs/crores, Indian categories, presets like 50/30/20 and 70/20/10.
๐ Private by design โ no bank login, no trackers, no selling your data, no ad profiling. Your numbers are yours.
๐ Free to start โ no card required.
It's a PWA, so you can add it to your home screen and it works like an app.
I'd genuinely love feedback from this community โ especially from fellow Indians on which categories and budgeting rules you'd want built in. What would make you switch from a spreadsheet (or from doing nothing ๐ )?
