The Wavy Knife Rack: A knife rack produced by hand... and robot.

Hey Product Hunt! This is my first submission both here and on Kickstarter (where I'm launching). I'm very eager to share my project with you all, as it has been a culmination of a lot of ideas that have been floating around in my head for a while now. As someone with a significant interest in design (I work currently as a UX designer, and am also in graduate school for industrial design at Pratt Institute), I get frustrated when I see objects that were not thoughtfully conceived, manufactured, or distributed. Cheap products that were shipped thousands of miles through inconceivable supply chains only to break upon receipt. So why a knife rack? Well, great question. Firstly, I love to cook, and for a long time had my knives sitting unhappily in drawer, dinging each other up. I wanted something to contain my knives that didn't feel flimsy. After not finding what I was looking for, I decided to take a motif I had been working with (the wavy pattern) and try to apply it to a product; and particularly a product I would be able to manufacture using the facilities I had available so that I would be able to manufacture them myself. As part of my studies at Pratt, I am working towards understanding if there are alternatives to mass manufacturing and shipping; all of which result in a significant cost to the planet and environment -- I think that distributed, small scale manufacture can help in this regard, allowing smaller shops to use regional materials to produce ideas that are proliferated digitally. This is my first stab at trying to see if this is, in fact, a possibility. Thanks for reading, and please please let me know if you have any questions!
