@Wienke looks awesome! From your video, it sounds like you have already covered Amsterdam, is this true? We are currently working on a project in Amsterdam that could benefit from using LoRaWAN
@wienke Perfect! Just saw this too late for today, but will definitely try and drop by! I have worked with John Tillema in the past, awesome to see he is a part of it! Hopefully catch you soon.
My buddy @Wienke just launched his Kickstarter with his team. This is great, independent, crowdsourced, open source, it has all the ingredients to work and do good for the (tech) world. They already have a global community in place and expanding every hour. Also, within a day they’re already approaching their humble goal wooooow haha. I hope this thread will be filled with technical questions and ideas to make this even better. Take it way Wienke!
What would the world look like, if everyone would own contribute, not just take bandwidth? For the reason to join this project was the fact that every owner becomes a propagator of the network. Usually, if you have more people in one space, like e.g. large crowd in e.g. London, the few cell towers break down easily. With this in theory, the more people, the more devices building the network. And the enormous reach of multiple km for one device is amazing. And did I mention it is free and open? What a potential. It took Wienke and Johan 6 weeks to cover the whole of Amsterdam!
I've been lucky enough to watch some of their developments from the sideline. The Things network is a rare example of the combination of having both a impactful product and more importantly amazing execution. They way the founding team is powering iot communities around to Things networks and entrepreneurs to develop new applications is a great thing. Even better, their execution has been nothing short of amazing. In a matter of just a few months they have been able to build the first iot network in Amsterdam and communities around the world that are ready to do the same thing.
Keep up the great work guys!
It's great to see Wienke work at this, haven't seen him so enthusiastic before! Even more promising to see how contagious it appears to be :) Looking forward to seeing what possibilities this opens up for IoT!
@juliangijsen@wienke he was a little less enthusiastic about the time he worked on WappZapp. But still, first startup energy is always great. Funny it's still in his bio ;)
@wienke spoke at "The IoT Show" in August about how he got entire Amsterdam covered for IoT connectivity with 10 LoRA WAN gateways and shared his vision to make it global and to build a gateway device at $300. I have been very inspired to see the community come together in so many places in the world Sydney, Buenos Aires, Kochi, Cape Town, Paris, Manchester, São Paulo, Boston (in the works) etc. It reminds me of watching the making of Linux. I am thrilled to be able to support the kickstarter and can't get my hands on my own Things Uno here in San Jose.
