Hey Product Hunt š
I haven't gotten an official diagnosis yet ā but I'm pretty confident I have Alpha-gal Syndrome. I figured it out through AI, not a doctor. I described my symptoms, the timing of reactions, what I'd eaten ā and the AI connected the dots before any physician did.
That experience sent me down a rabbit hole. AGS is triggered by mammalian meat and derivatives, but the real problem is everything hidden: gelatin in marshmallows, lard in restaurant tortillas, carrageenan in "dairy-free" milk, beef extract hiding as "natural flavors." Standard allergen labels don't flag any of it.
So I built The Safe Sous ā and it's a lot more than a recipe generator:
ā Brand Checker ā type any product or brand, get a verdict against your allergy profile
ā Label Scanner ā paste an ingredient list and every item gets flagged safe, caution, or unsafe
ā Photograph the Label ā point your camera at any label, Claude reads it and analyzes it instantly
ā Barcode Scanner ā scan a product in-store, checks Open Food Facts + USDA + our own cache
ā Menu Analyzer ā photograph a restaurant menu and get every safe dish highlighted instantly
ā Recipe Adapter ā paste any recipe you love, get a fully safe version back
ā Meal Planner ā generates a full week of safe meals automatically
ā Reaction Diary ā log symptoms, get AI insights on patterns over time
I use Claude for the AI reasoning because it handles nuance ā knowing that "natural flavors" in a savory product warrants a flag, not a pass.
If AI helped me figure out what was wrong, maybe it can help others eat safely too. That's the whole idea.
Happy to answer anything ā especially from anyone managing AGS, MCAS, or overlapping allergies.
