I first heard about PDT when I was watching Zane Lamprey's Drinking Made Easy and knew I had to go. Often hailed as "The Best Worst-Kept-Secret Bar in the World", you enter Please Don't Tell (or PDT) through a secret door located inside a phone booth at the back corner of a hot doggery in NYC's East Village.
Ruled by renowned mixologist Jim Meehan, a few years ago he and Chris Gall released the beautifully illustrated PDT Cocktail Book, which is a feast for the eyes as much as it is for the palette.
Because I like to mix drinks, my family is always buying me cocktail books - but if I had to throw them all out and keep one, this book would be it. I've seen it tucked away in the back of bars all around the world (including no less than 5 bars here in Perth, Western Australia) and it's generally a flag to the savvy drinker that a bar takes its drinks seriously.
