The most exciting thing about this new framework is we'll be able to iterate on the interface much faster going forward, so if you have any suggestions or ideas for how you'd like to interact with your WordPress sites please let me know. Also the real-time updates are the coolest thing ever. :)
@datarade I think because it's an update to Wordpress.com and not Wordpress itself.
@photomatt For those not familiar, what is the distinction between the two and what upcoming changes is this likely to herald to Wordpress itself?
@photomatt - if I understand correctly, the desktop app can be used for wordpress.org sites as well?
But you need to install JetPack and therefore I assume have a wordpress.com account?
Also will the tabbed editor (without requiring a page refresh) be coming to wordpress.org?
@alangarrec You are correct, self hosted sites that have an active Jetpack plugin can be accessed via the desktop app. Activating the Jetpack plugin requires a WordPress.com account, so you assume correctly :)
I believe the editor you're referring to is currently available for Jetpack-connected sites via the WordPress.com interface, and also through the new desktop app.
Just when Medium.com was starting to look like the modern version of Wordpress, Matt and Automattic reminds you of why they power 25% of the internet. Keep being awesome!
@ianthekid I'm not too sure @Medium and @WordPress share anything as far as the UX and UI are concerned. WordPress strives to be more like Medium in that sense, not the other way around. It's why WordPress has dedicated so many resources in building and hyping Gutenberg.
This is really exciting! Pumped to check this out later. If it works like the existing wordpress.com (to which I've connected my .org sites via jetpack) this is a game changer to my workflow on Mac.
@sphmrs That's right - any sites connected to your WordPress.com account via Jetpack are available in the desktop app!

Shame I have to install and setup Jetpack first to add my sites (unlike the mobile app, which works out the box with self-hosted sites), but still very cool!
@adamowenit Sorry about that, but some of the things we're doing require APIs that core doesn't support yet, hence needing the Jetpack plugin. But Jetpack also includes a ton of other stuff that you'll hopefully find useful, for example the Photon image CDN which has caching locations all over the world.
There's a reason WordPress is #1. It's the best. The Automattic team are a huge reason behind the success and they show you why with Calypso. Awesome stuff and congrats! Here's to the future of WordPress!
I used to work with the wonderful team at WordPress, and it's so awesome to see what they've been doing! Looks like a great new experience, can't wait to try it out! @photomatt
