Hello Product Hunt! We’re thrilled to introduce The Current to the Product Hunt community. Gen Z is brimming with potential. We’re going to help them reach it. We’re offering a free weekly social impact newsletter to foster Gen Z’s passion for social change. The Current provides readers with context on the issues they care about and simple steps to take meaningful action. We want The Current to get into the hands of more Gen Z changemakers from historically marginalized backgrounds as we make careers in social change more accessible. Our founder, Susie Kim (@supersiemmetry), has an amazing vision and would love to share it with you all. We’re so excited to see what you think and would love your feedback along the way! Our email is team@electricpotential.org.

What a feeling to send this out to the world. My deepest thank you to everyone for your support. 🥹🫶 The idea of The Current started when I was between jobs, between homes, and on a long road trip through Yellow Stone during the pandemic, listening to The Rabbit Hole podcast by NYT. It was alarming to hear the breakdown of effect social media has, spreading misinformation & bias, creating echo chambers, and deepening polarization and in some cases extremism on issues around the world. It was especially alarming knowing that the Gen Zs, the generation of changemakers and action takers, are getting most of their news from social media. The Current was built to break echo chambers and build more context around 40 different issues around the world, across political, environmental, societal, and individual topics—why they exist, who’s already working on it, what still needs to get done—so that we can all take ‘informed’ action for a long-term change. Our researchers, writers, editors, and designers are all Gen Zs from around the world, on a shared mission of creating a ripple effect of social impact through the rest of the generation. We are learning more about the world with every newsletter that goes out ourselves — and we hope you join us in this small but mighty community of changemakers! 💌

Following the news can be overwhelming for me. The Current provides an easy way to stay informed about the issues I care about in a fun and engaging way. I'm looking forward to seeing what issues are tackled next!
Susie Kim
@celialyn THIS! Not only are there so much happening so fast that it’s hard to keep up with issues and stories you care about, it’s also hard to get any context on why it’s happening or what we should do about it. Our goal is to make that part easier for our Gen Z readers, so I’m so happy you find value in The Current! 🥰

Out of all of the projects I've worked on for EP over the past two years, The Current has been my favorite! The research that goes into each week's email makes it so rewarding to both write and read, and I can't wait to reach more changemakers!
Susie Kim
@amyxbt I’m in awe of your work, taking the newsletter from a siloed digital space and turning it into a community of readers. The Voices of Gen Z poll is my favorite, bc I feel so seen and heard 😭 I can’t wait to keep growing our tight-knit community of subscriber-changemakers with our best Community Manager! 👏

Congrats on the launch! Can you give us a sneak peek of the upcoming issue you're most excited about? :-)
Susie Kim
@andrewthezhou Thank you Andrew! Since March we’ve covered issues like Women’s Inequality👩‍⚖️, Sustainability 🌍, Economic Inequality 📊, LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈, and Militarism 🪖 each month. In September, we’re about to cover something we’ve all deeply experienced — COVID-19 🚑😷

I am not a a Part of the Gen Z generation. I am on the tail end of the Baby Boomers. Gen Z’ers, in my experience, do not feel their voices matter. I’m excited to see this tool that is explicitly direct to Gen Z regarding social issues and how they can make an impact! Congratulations!
Susie Kim
@brenda_johnson4 Thank you so much Brenda! It means a lot coming from a public school educator (we love you and your important work for our future generations!! 🫶)

The content is super high quality and informative, yet easy to read - been very impressed with the team’s work! Any Gen Z (or anyone really) that cares about staying current on social issues and helping the world become a better place should def subscribe to it ⚡️⚡️⚡️ can’t wait to see where this goes!
Susie Kim
