ternbook — A web directory for the modern web. Includes a one-click random website opener, a webmap, a robust search function and good security. Easy to join too, add a json file in your /.well-known/ directory and do a POST request to an instance and you're good to go, your website gets shown!

Made this because google has SEO spam and has a lot of ads, it started as a "homage to the old web" but it kinda evolved...
It's is an open-source, federated web directory protocol designed to be able to discover living websites. I might be annoying but I'm going to say it again, all you need is to add a .json file to your .well-known/ directory in your website, ping an instance, and that's it you just joined ternbook!
It uses an asymmetric gossip network protocol to allow communities to host sovereign, self-cleaning nodes.
Love the simplicity of joining via a json file in /.well-known, that lower barrier is great. One thing I'd suggest adding is some kind of basic uptime or last-checked timestamp next to each listing so users can tell which sites are still actually live versus abandoned, especially with so many personal sites popping up these days.
@guneshaska78891 yooo thanks for the support, for the website part if any website doesn't like ping an instance for more than 3 years it gets pruned, the main page shows websites that pinged an instance in chronological order 👍👍
Love the simplicity of the well-known file approach. One thing I'd suggest is adding per-site tagging or categorization so people can browse the directory by interest instead of relying only on search or the random button. Would make discovery way more fun.
@fratgzelsodszj oh that's already implemented, maybe it's a good time to explore Ternbook 👁️👄👁️
love how easy you made it to onboard a site, just drop a json file and hit POST. that low-friction approach feels really well thought out for getting people to actually contribute.
@mesut31176 yee
honestly the random website button is kind of addictive, i've already lost like 20 minutes clicking it. setup via the json file in .well-known seems pretty painless too.
@durmusoban4003 ayyy thanks for actually exploring ternbook!!1 wow 20 minutes though that's a bit... uhh anyways thanks for the support!
The /.well-known/ json approach is such a clean way to onboard without forcing people through a UI. Nice that it feels open by default instead of gated.
@ece103092 hehehe thankyouuu <3 I made it so that ternbook is easy enough to join for not-so-experienced users!
