@malikelbay Unfortunately Telegram is not very open about user numbers. The last official number was announced in May 2015, stating that they hit 62 Mio monthly active users. Between May 2015 and Sept 2015 the number of daily sent messages has increased from 2 billion to 12 billion, so there's definitely a growth of engagement on this platform.
Also, during the 48h WhatsApp ban in Brazil (Dezember 2015) Telegram gained another 1.5 million users.

@3x14159265 wow this is a great traction. Apparently Telegram offers several native clients. On which platforms can one get a client? Windows, Linux? I think this can lead to a big increade in users.
@malikelbay Telegram has official mobile clients for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and offical desktop clients for PC, Mac & Linux, as well as a web platform. In my opinion it's one of the best showcases how a messaging app works & syncs seamingless across multiple devices.
Messengers seem to be the next thing. They are becoming platforms like social networks did in the last decade. Using a messenger to login is the first step of a deeper integration between apps and messengers.
Which sources do you recommend to stay in the loop about all things messengers?
If messengers will become the new mobile OS, we need it to be secure, to use it as login and move money. Telegram does the two first already. What about money transaction?
@mortjac afaik Telegram is already testing a money transaction in Russia, yet not confirmed.

@3x14159265 Do you think other messengers such as WhatsApp will follow this example? For instance almost excatly one year ago WhatsApp launched it's web services. Do think we will see more native clients from WhatsApp? And how about other messengers (WeChat, Threema, Kakao Talk)?
Very interesting to see a proof of concept for authenticating using Telegram. When you consider how popular Facebook, Twitter and Google authentication became over time and how sophisticated the products/services are compared to something slim like a messenger.
Fascinating how just a few years ago I was quite convinced that something like OpenID will become widely adopted and today looks more like supporting a specific set of authentication providers depending on your audience.

Thanks for sharing it @__tosh! It'd be interesting to see how popular the Telegram authentication will become in a few years.

As someone who is passionate about passwords, or should I say removing them from registration, I am happy to see more products built around user login #NoNewPasswords
@malikelbay I definitely hope so. Facebook already has its "Log in with Facebook", WhatsApp announced yesterday at the DLD that they will open their service for businesses somehow, yet still lacking of an API or real cross-platform support.
Technically the workflow of TelegramLogin would work for every messengers which allows to programmatically send messages to users and would imho make sense to strengthen each platform.
