Hey Tana Team. Congratulations on this huge milestone - one of many, I hope. Anyone who has followed me online will know I have tried an inordinate amount of note-taking/PKM apps and, at the same time, posted my fair share of criticism and complaints (and praise, on occasion). But one thing is certain: Tana is one of the most powerful note-taking apps I have tested. The ability to quickly capture information, categorise it without losing context, and retrieve it through powerful queries and searches means you have everything at your fingertips. The possibility of creating a web of information through backlinks, seeing your content in different views or surfacing what you need at the touch of a button is second to none. The recently released mobile apps mean that we can take our notes with us on the go (although there is still quite a bit of work needed to make the mobile experience flawless). On top of it all, the team behind it is incredibly passionate and has great ideas (there are things in Tana that I did not know had even been invented). The ability to work on so many fronts while listening to user feedback, and incorporating this into Tana, is phenomenal. There is no denying that there are a few additional features that I would like to see in Tana, but I would certainly not hold back from recommending it. If you are serious about note-taking, information retention, and, more importantly, retrieval, I would give Tana a shot and see if it can elevate you to the next level. Looking forward to seeing what the Tana team has in store for us next.

I've loved it since I first found it several years ago when it was in, I don't know, alpha I guess. Even though I'm decades retired and several times a great grandmother, it is still my favorite app. As a lifetime learner, it is a godsend in terms of keeping me aware of where I am, where I've been and where I need to go with the wide variety of interests I've developed over the years.

@aurorakb I'm Danish, but live down near the German border. Whenever anybody is puzzled by my name, I just tell them to think of me as Fru Biograph. 😄 But actually it's a Japanese name ( my husband's) and means "slot(t)sfelt".

I started using Tana about 2 years ago to track my daily thoughts, notes, and tasks, and I can honestly say it’s my favorite app that I’ve ever used. It’s as if it were designed for my brain. It’s so easy to enter whatever information you are thinking about, add whatever connections you care about, or no connections at all, and move on, knowing that you can always add more structure later as needed. I know that AI is all the rage these days. To be honest, when I first heard Tana was introducing AI I was skeptical. Why do I want an AI to help me take my own notes? But after using the AI for many months, it feels like a smart autocomplete for your mind. For example, after brain dumping my thoughts about the latest Severance episode, in one click the AI generates a simple one line summary for the title of my node, to make it much simpler and easier to view in a list or table. The team and the community are incredible. As an example, I’m using Tana to manage my system notes for my bridge partnerships, and I was dismayed to see that the heart and spade Unicode characters rendered in black instead of red. This might sound like a minor thing, but any bridge player can tell you that visual clarity matters when you are studying your notes to prepare for the next tournament! I reported the bug and within a couple days Theo had it fixed! I’m so excited for the team. I had an opportunity to meet the founders in an event in San Francisco last year. They are not only brilliant, but so kind and funny as well.

Absolutely love Tana. The whole team is amazing, the app has so much potential to get even better (though it is amazing right now). Really feel like Tana will increasingly become my one stop solution for notetaking etc and be the main integrating app in my set up.

Very impressive next generation in second brain / tools for thought. Register, associate, find and act on your thinking and anything that inspires you. I was able to get accepted in the early beta and experienced a huge leap forward, coming from Roam Research. Very impressive.

I have been using Tana since late-November 2022 and I wouldn't be able to function without it. It is a huge part of a small daily toolkit I rely upon to function - email, Slack (for work), my calendar (which integrates with Tana), and Tana (for work, knowledge management, and creative projects). Tana is also the portal through which most of my AI experimentation has taken place. At this point, it feels less like a second brain, and more like just a vital extension of the first one. The speed of its development and the community they've built will be a case study in business schools someday. My advice: get started using it or fall behind. Because you'll soon be wondering how your successful colleagues and competitors are able to accomplish so much. They may or may not care enough about you to share their secret, but I will: they use Tana.

This is the personal knowledge management system that finally worked for me--I've tried Obsidian and found it inaccessible and difficult, messed around with other PKMs, and Tana just clicked. I've been running around describing it as "the best database software you've ever SEEN!" to everyone I know for months during the beta. But that's an inadequate description. It's not just PKM, and it's not just a database, and it's not just project management software, though it does all that. It's finding information I vaguely remember having read last year, saving protocols that worked and then one-click duplicating them into templates I can write and take notes in so I can do that process again, FINDING the darn protocol, because I am not an organized person, and yes, the petty little delight of pinning heading banners that make me smile to the tops of sections. Best of all, I don't actually have to be organized, because you can @ a node (everything is a node--basically a database entry you can tag, or not, and categorize by putting it under a section header, or not) from anywhere, and it will reference it. Not duplicate it (though you can make it do that too), but reference it so when you edit it one place, you edit it everyplace. It exists somewhere, and you can see it anywhere. This apparently matches the way my brain works, and not a lot of software does. So this is knowledge management for the hyperorganized and the chronically disorganized alike.

How do you explain Tana to others?

Tana is my productivity powerhouse. I spent six years running GTD in Todoist, then two and a half years managing notes and tasks in Roam Research. Both are solid apps, but Todoist’s structure is too prescriptive for me. And while Roam was great for emergent work and ideas, it lacked the features to capture my structure—the way I think and work—in a reusable way. For me, Tana is the promised land. I can work bottom-up, letting action and ideas emerge organically, and I can capture what’s reusable about that work—refining and optimizing my workflows until they fit me perfectly. I’m a productivity coach, so I’ve thought, written, and taught a lot about this process. Almost everything in productivity boils down to capture and surface: Can I get information into my system in such a way that it shows up everywhere—and every-when—I need it? Even the most complex workflows are really just interwoven combinations of small, powerful capture/surface patterns. This is where Tana shines. Getting information into Tana is effortless (especially with its incredible voice capture), and it’s just as easy to configure it to surface exactly when and where I need it. And if I ever need that information in a new place or viewed differently? It takes maybe 30 seconds to create new “surface area” for information that’s already in my workspace. I won’t dig into the mechanics here (though I do in my Essential Tana Skills YouTube playlist). But once you understand nodes, fields, supertags, and searches—and how they complement each other—Tana becomes surprisingly straightforward to shape into your tailor-made productivity powerhouse. I laugh sometimes when I compare what I pay for Netflix to what Tana costs. I get 100x more value from Tana—and yet it costs less (and there’s even a free version!). Tana isn’t just five stars for me—it’s more like 15 out of 5. It's easily the most valuable app, or tool of any type, that I've ever used. And it keeps getting better all the time! I love Tana!
