The problem: when someone finds a lost dog or cat, they usually can't do much. The engraved tag might have an old number, and a microchip needs a vet or warden with a scanner. My own golden retriever, Charlie, wore an engraved disc before Taggzi, with my phone number on show to anyone who picked him up.

What Taggzi does: it's a small tag with NFC and a QR code. The finder taps or scans it with any phone and the pet's profile opens in the browser. No app and no account for the finder.

Key features:

• The owner chooses which contact details the finder sees, and the finder can send a private message through Taggzi.

• With Taggzi Pro, the finder can start a private voice or video call from the browser (camera optional), and no phone numbers are shared either way.

• Lost Mode turns the profile into an emergency page, makes a printable A4 poster, and alerts Taggzi members nearby.

• An owner app on iPhone (Android is in Google's final review), plus a free partner programme so vets, groomers and rescues can give tags to their clients.

Who it's for: UK dog and cat owners, and the rescues and vets who look after them. It isn't a GPS tracker: it helps the finder reach you, and it works alongside the microchip and, for dogs, the engraved name and address UK law requires. No battery, nothing to charge.
