What do you think? …

Graham Earley
Really great app, Charlie. As someone who uses Markdown a lot, it's super nice to have my writing auto-formatted in an intelligent way. I haven't run into any issues with this yet, but I'm curious -- how does the app (or how will it) handle cases where it mis-guesses what a user is trying to do (e.g. assigning something as a header when it's not, or vice-versa)? Will there be a feature to allow users to correct the editor's assumption? Also, I love the built in export styles. Do you think custom styles are a potential feature down the line? Again, great work! This already made it into my dock.

@graham_earley Thanks Graham. I know my dock is reserved for only special apps, so that's an honor. You've touched on two points that are actually on the development docket. Of course, the goal is that Tabula won't mis-guess, but such cases are also inevitable. Tabula is (currently) unable to read people's minds, it can only do its best based on the information it has available. For version 1.0, Tabula's interpreter is all-or-nothing. That is to say, either it styles something, or it does not. There's no middle ground. In the future, I'd like it to flag edge cases its on the fence about for the user to clear up, and learn from such cases. Additionally, I'd like to offer users the ability to explicitly flag blocks of text if they wish. Having said all that, if Tabula fails to detect something, such as a heading, you can use always use Markdown and Tabula will pick up on that. Custom export styles is on the dev-plan as well! Figuring a way to create this functionality, across both macOS and iOS, in an easy and intuitive way for users is a surprisingly tricky problem, so it unfortunately did not make its way into version 1.0. In the meantime, you can always export Tabula's interpretation as "raw HTML", and slot it into a stylesheet you've created or have lying around from other sources.

Hello everybody! I'm really excited to be sharing this project I've been working on with ya'll. Tabula is a distraction free writing app which automatically formats your text as you write. Tabula lets you focus on honing your words, instead of fiddling with formatting menus. You can lay out the page how it feels most natural to you, and Tabula's interpreter with automatically style headers, lists, tables, links, titles, subtitles, and more. When it comes time to export, Tabula wraps your content into hand crafted themes which adapt to changes in paper and screen size. So they read comfortably wherever you take them. Whether it be shopping lists, blog posts, class notes, or financial reports, Tabula will make it look great, with no effort. Tabula is available for macOS and iOS, and you can sync documents via iCloud Drive. --- It's been a wild ride getting to version 1.0, and I can't wait to see what ya'll think.
