Taaltest is a free, adaptive language proficiency test, available for multiple languages. It tunes every question to your level in real time and gives a CEFR result (A1–C2) with a skill breakdown in ~15 minutes. Free-text answers are graded intelligently on meaning — a typo won't fail you. No signup.

I built Taaltest because every "what's your language level?" test I found was
either a paywalled exam, a 5-question BuzzFeed quiz, or something that marked
"één" wrong because you typed "een".
Taaltest is a free, adaptive Dutch test:
Adaptive — it starts around the middle and adjusts every question to your
level in real time (an Elo-style engine, the same idea behind the GRE / Duolingo).
It converges on your true level in ~30 questions — usually under 15 minutes.
Scores what you mean — free-text answers aren't judged by exact string
match. A missing accent or a one-letter typo earns partial credit, not a red
cross.
A result you can use — you get a CEFR level (A1–C2) plus a breakdown
across vocabulary, grammar, reading and sentence construction. No signup to take it.
For language schools there's a B2B layer: invite candidates by link, results
land on your dashboard, and you can download a PDF placement report (explicitly an
indication, not a certificate). There's a free pilot tier.
Tests in Dutch, English, German, French and Spanish are already available and I'm willing to expand this reach.
Two things I'd love from you: if you take the test, did the level it gave you feel
right? And what language should I add next?
Built solo with Django + HTMX + daisyUI. Happy to go deep on the adaptive engine
or the scoring logic in the comments.
