I have a physical disability, and while I can type, it’s a slower process for me. I’ve especially noticed that since I decided to go back to school. Finding Superwhisper has absolutely changed things for me. I no longer dread writing papers.

Because of its ability to create custom modes, I’ve even created a mode that allows me to do my coding classes and use voice to text to input code into IDEs. It’s been an absolute game changer for me. I have used other voice dictation apps on the Mac before, and they work, but none of them have the customization that Superwhisper offers me.

One of my favorite features that I have not seen other voice dictation apps offer is the ability to activate dictation with your mouse rather than hotkeys. While using hotkeys is not a problem, sometimes it’s easier to just use your mouse, especially in my case when I have my keyboard locked a lot of the time because I have a cat who likes to lay on it.

I love the fact that you can use both cloud and local models. So if you need privacy, you know you’ve got it with the local models. I’ve had zero issues with accuracy while using local models. Overall, I’m just incredibly happy with Superwhisper.

What needs improvement

The only issue I can think of that could use some improvement is the ability to set a default mode. I have a number of custom modes that I created for academic writing and for coding. Switching to them is fine using app triggers, but when I am not using one of those apps, the mode does not automatically switch back to my default mode. I think that would be a nice quality-of-life improvement.

If I am in my IDE, Code mode activates. If I am in Word, Writing mode activates. But then, if I am back in my browser or on Messages or anything else, it would be nice if my default mode automatically switched back. I do have some app triggers set up on my default mode to try to make that happen, but it is not 100% reliable.

vs Alternatives

Voicy Speech to Text

Before Superwhisper, I was using Voicy, and it works very well. The developer is very responsive and a great guy to talk to. However, Superwhisper beats it because of its ability to create custom modes and choose your AI models. I know that Voicy will get there, but it’s just not there yet.

There is something quietly life-changing about a tool that gets out of your way and just works. Superwhisper is that tool for me.

I have been using it for three months now, and the honest truth is that it has changed how I communicate. I am someone who thinks faster than I type, and for a long time that gap between thought and text was a source of daily frustration. Ideas would arrive fully formed and then lose something in the translation to the keyboard. Superwhisper closed that gap.

When I first started, the accuracy sat somewhere around 50 to 60 percent. Good enough to be interesting, not quite good enough to trust completely. But as the models improved, so did the experience and now I am sitting at around 95 percent accuracy consistently. That jump is not just a number. It is the difference between a tool you tolerate and a tool you rely on. The seamless experience it creates has genuinely improved my speed and productivity in ways I did not fully anticipate when I started.

What I did not expect was how much it would change the feeling of working. There is something almost freeing about speaking your thoughts and watching them land on the page cleanly. It makes writing feel less like a task and more like a conversation with yourself.

What needs improvement

The one friction point I have noticed is on iPhone. When you press the scroll response button, it occasionally does not register the recording. It is inconsistent rather than broken, but in a tool built around capturing your thoughts in the moment, a missed recording is a missed thought. That small unreliability is the only thing standing between this and a flawless experience.

I genuinely hope the team keeps refining what is already a near-perfect product. The foundation is exceptional. A little more polish on the mobile side and there is nothing left to ask for.

vs Alternatives

I looked at other transcription and voice-to-text tools before landing on Superwhisper, but nothing matched the combination of accuracy, speed, and how naturally it fits into an existing workflow. Most alternatives felt like an extra step. Superwhisper feels like a removed one.

Superwhisper is quite possibly one of my favorite products ever. I've made my keyboard nearly obsolete. I love that I can just create custom modes and brain dump and have it output as truly structured, understandable text. The fact that I can just create my own prompts to run my dictated text through makes talking naturally a huge part of my day. It's just a phenomenal user experience. There's very little I would change about it. Neil has done a phenomenal job 🔥

What needs improvement

The mobile app could use some love (currently in progress with the TestFlight!). Also, sometimes I look like a psychopath talking to my computer 😭 so I'm waiting for the telepathy update

Superwhisper is just very clearly a product built with care and love. I like the optionality between choosing my own models, the lifetime options so that I can really invest in a single product, the constant updates that make it feel natural and smooth, and the general focus on giving people the ability to choose between whether they want their voices processed locally versus online. This complexity, but I think Superwhisper strikes a great balance between good defaults and an experience that lets power users do what they want to.

Superwhisper is seriously impressive. I’ve been using it across three languages — French, Spanish, and English — and the transcription accuracy blows me away every time. Even with my mix of accents, idioms, and the occasional Englishism thrown into my French, it still nails everything. That level of precision is rare, and it makes a real difference. I also love how you can customize modes depending on what you’re doing — whether it’s writing a message, taking notes, or something else entirely. And the fact that you can layer prompts on top of that? Huge. It really feels like the product adapts to you, not the other way around. Another big plus: the lifetime purchase. It’s becoming so rare to see that model, and honestly, it was one of the main reasons I went for it. You pay once, you’re set — no stress, no subscription fatigue. Literally use it daily to communicate with AI. So helpful for a world currently where boundaries of capability varies across different frontier models depending on the problem you have in front of you. This tool completely opened up a brand new way of me being able to interact with AI - effectively allowing for me to talk 10 minutes to it at a time in one input, and having the AI have all the context it needs to either 1. help me with the problem/situation at hand, 2. reflect back to me what is it I'm missing or 3. provide value to me simply as a means of organizing and refining my thoughts via speaking. Absolutely love it and the UI is my biggest inspiration right now across all the products I've grown to use and love the past few months. Super sleek.

I use superwhisper daily in both my private life and while working. The biggest advantage is the flexibility it offers; you can choose the voice and language models that best suit your needs, and you program your own modes for different tasks you want to accomplish. Whether you want to write a short story, take notes, or need to draft a memo for work, superwhisper can be adapted to suit any situation. You can also teach it vocabulary that you use if it isn't part of everyday language, which increases the accuracy of the dictation. This adaptability is the greatest benefit of superwhisper, as it can tailored to your needs and effectively integrated into your daily life

SuperWhisper has been a game changer for me. I'm able to move much faster as I work by using my voice instead of typing. I've also discovered that I process concepts better when I verbalize them. Dictating my communications with SuperWhisper has allowed me to do that in ways that I couldn't when I was typing more. The AI integration completely negates the feeling I used to have when using traditional dictation tools (ahem, Siri). I don't have to worry about getting everything said perfectly, nor even worry about having perfect grammar. Neil, the developer, is very responsive, open to suggestions, and welcomes critical feedback.

Such useful software! I find myself writing more and better documentation and emails with it because it makes text entry so fast. I'm more talkative and engaged in Slack too because I can speak and explain my thoughts well. The developer is always improving it and taking feedback. My partner, who has days of bad hand pain, uses it a lot too and is thankful for it.

Has a free tier, works locally, and is extremely fast and accurate even with standard models. Would highly reccomend for tasks like talking to AI and perhaps even vibe coding. One of the key features that sets this apart from basic transcription is the formatting of the text, which is particularly useful for writing emails.
