Hey PH community! I’m Tigran, the co-founder and CEO of SuperAnnotate. Thanks @chrismessina for hunting us :) As a leading commercial annotation platform provider, we are super excited to introduce you to our brand new SuperAnnotate Desktop App - a free, super-fast, and all-inclusive image annotation tool for various computer vision applications. This was made possible due to our partnership with OpenCV! We have seen a huge gap in functionality between commercial and free/open-source annotation tools, and we’re excited to bridge this gap with this release. Coming from academia and seeing the pains with annotations firsthand, we want to make sure our computer vision community is equipped with world-class tools to kickstart their projects right away. Whether it’s putting bounding boxes and polygons, or key points and cuboids, we ensured to include the extensive experience we have gained while working with hundreds of computer vision teams. SuperAnnotate Desktop can be easily installed on all operating systems (Windows/Mac/Linux), and most importantly, it's FREE without any limitations! We are looking forward to hearing your comments and feedback to further improve your experience! Feel free to download the app from our website: https://www.superannotate.com/do...

@chrismessina @tigran_petrosyan2 If it's free, what's the business model, how do you support development?
Vahan Petrosyan
@chrismessina @tigran_petrosyan2 @bittlingmayer The desktop app is forever free. For more collaboration and AI acceleration features, you can use the web based SaaS platform: http://app.superannotate.com/

Wow it's a very nice product! Love the usability and the range of annotation types available. Congrats on the launch :) Simple question: In the main comment, you're saying that it's free without restriction but on the pricing section of your webpage, the free version seems to be limited to 100 documents annotated??
Miranda Jackson
@merlin_laffitte I was wondering the same thing! :) Anyway the product seems quite nice
Tigran Hakobyan
@merlin_laffitte thank you so much for support! The desktop app is totally free and it's being installed on your local machine and is great for individual usage. The limitation of 100 images applies to the free version of our web platform, not to the desktop app. Hope this answers your question :)
Tigran Hakobyan
@merlin_laffitte @miranda_jackson thank you! The limitation of 100 images applies to the free version of our Web platform, not to the desktop app. The desktop app is totally free :)
Merlin Laffitte
@tigranhakobian Great news! Thanks for the clarification then ;)

Fantastic!

@sidneyminassian thank you!
Pietz Prove
@tigran_petrosyan2 thank you for giving us this extremely useful tool for free. it really underlines your story and how you believe that anyone should have access to annotation software. Could you share a rough roadmap what you plan to do with the software regarding updates because it partially cuts into your online business model?
Vahan Petrosyan
@gopietz In many ways, you are absolutely right Pietz. The desktop app is good for solo users, researchers, CV enthusiasts. The web platform provides you AI acceleration features, collaboration, user, file and project management features, etc. All of these are essential for your production CV pipeline. It is a good start to prototype and check if your CV algorithm is working, but as soon as you get into serious CV problems, we encourage the web-based solution.

@gopietz @vahan_petrosyan awesome thats precisely the pain point that follows me around. where can i read more about the license of the desktop app? can i use it for commercial projects?
Vahan Petrosyan
@gopietz absolutely, the Desktop app you can use it for commercial projects. You can find more info in OpenCV AI github page: https://github.com/opencv-ai/sup...
