Hello! We are a small team of experts in modern algorithms who created Sudoku Mood. We enjoy playing Sudoku to unwind a little and have fun. However, after years of using multiple Sudoku websites, we realized that none of them work the way we'd wish them to. So we decided to fix that and make our own Sudoku website! 💡 The most annoying problem with all Sudoku websites we tried was the quality of their puzzles - the puzzles labeled with the same difficulty level in reality vary significantly in difficulty. 😕 Some of them may take you 5-10 times more time to solve than others. So sometimes it's too easy, and sometimes it's so difficult, it's not fun anymore. As software engineers who specialize in algorithms, we recognized the origins of this problem - Sudoku puzzles are generated by computers and thus are perfect to play only if you are a computer too. 💻 We thought it would be a perfect job for us - to create an algorithm that can think like a human when generating and solving Sudoku puzzles. Moreover, we thought it would be an easy task - and, boy, we were wrong 😂. It took us much, much more time than we thought it would. And, to be honest, at some point, we almost gave up - the task seemed too difficult. 😫 However, in a few months we managed to make a breakthrough and our algorithm started working. 💪 Now we have an algorithm that can create unique Sudoku puzzles and evaluate how interesting and challenging solving each of them would be for a human. 🥳 Building the website itself was much less challenging than generating puzzles. Yet, it also was quite time consuming as we decided that the site’s quality must match the quality of the puzzles it offers. So we paid a lot of attention to details to make sure that users have a great experience when playing our Sudoku puzzles. 🔎 We also implemented at least two unique features that none of our competitors offer. ✅ The first feature is the time-to-solve indicator for each puzzle. We offer 5 levels of difficulty and thanks to our human-like algorithm, we could have made all puzzles within the same level to have exactly the same difficulty. However, we figured it would be too boring. So we allowed the difficulty to vary a little within the same level. And decided to show an indicator to give users an idea of how difficult each puzzle is compared to other puzzles of the same level. ⏳ ✅ Another unique feature we offer is our intelligent hint function. Many other websites have hint functions too. However, most of them are able to show you a hint only if there is a very simple move available and, ironically, when you need hints the least. Sudoku Mood is always able to provide users with a hint and a full explanation of how the next move can be logically achieved without guessing. This helps players to learn and improve their Sudoku solving skills.
