It's not optional — if you sell subscriptions to EU customers, you need a proper cancellation button in your customer portal, with a confirmation flow and a paper trail. Fines can reach 4% of annual turnover under the broader consumer rights framework. The problem is Shopify doesn't include this out of the box, and most subscription apps only partially address it.
