Hey hunters! 👋
Founder here. Subcult Transcribe started as a personal itch: I kept downloading movies and documentaries that had no subtitles available anywhere — no official release, nothing on the usual subtitle sites, nothing. So I built a small Node.js script using whisper.cpp to generate them myself.
It worked so well for my own use that I kept refining it — better handling of different audio qualities, cleaner timestamp formatting, support for podcasts and longer files — until it felt like something other people in the same situation might actually want to use.
So I turned it into Subcult Transcribe: upload a video or audio file, and get back accurate, ready-to-use subtitles. No editing software, no manual syncing, no digging through forums hoping someone already subbed the obscure documentary you found.
This is v1, built by one person scratching their own itch, so it's intentionally simple right now. I'd genuinely love your feedback — what's missing, what's confusing, what would make this useful for your own workflow (podcasters, archivists, language learners, and fellow "why doesn't this have subs" people, I'm especially curious to hear from you).
Thanks for checking it out 🙏
