even though I had their own documents to prove that newco had been set up by them. Now I'm about 15 messages deep in a quagmire of terrible customer service, punting the tickets back and forth, finger-pointing at other teams and at me (as if this was something I could have possibly done) - they basically seem to have no idea what they are doing. I wished I could recommend them, as I like Stripe in general - but this issue and the lack of competent customer service to handle it is quite distressing.
