Station Chat World is a night globe of campfires. Each fire is a conversation someone lit in their city, and when it burns out the conversation is gone.
Right now the busiest fires are around live football and cricket matches, and this week a hospital ward group will be held its first hosted evening.
Most chat apps keep everything forever: every group, every thread, every old message. I kept missing the opposite, the kind of conversation you have around a campfire. You sit down with whoever is there, talk for an evening, and when the fire goes out it's gone.
So I built Station Chat World. You get a night globe covered in small campfires, and each one is a conversation someone lit in their city. You can peek in, sit down and write a postcard to everyone at the fire. Every fire has a time, and when it burns out the conversation goes with it.
It started as a plain chat room and grew from what people actually did around the fires:
š„ Match fires for football and cricket, with the live score, who scored, and a chance to call the result and win a trophy
š Angel mode, always on, which catches rude, violent or sexual words before anyone sees them
š Small gifts you can hand to someone at the fire
šļø Hosted evenings: tomorrow a group of ward runners lights its first hosted fire together
There's no account and no app store. It's a web app you can install on Android, iPhone, Mac or Windows in under a minute.
It's built by a tiny team, with AI tools helping along the way. I'd really like to hear what you think: what would make you light a fire, and what would make you leave one?
