I believe a better approach is to download and organize MP3 files in a local library, while using the cloud primarily for sharing with others. Unlike Spotify — especially the free version, which heavily programs the user through its personalization algorithms — a local MP3 library gives genuine freedom of choice. The difference becomes visible and tangible only when managing your own music collection.
I use Spotify all the time and love its huge music library and personalized playlists that always match my mood. The user-friendly interface makes finding and saving songs easy. However, the free version has frequent ads, and sometimes the recommendation algorithm misses the mark. Despite these minor annoyances, Spotify remains my go-to app for music streaming.
For a long time, Spotify has definitely provided a unique service at an unbeatable price.
Recently, I've been encountering all sorts of problems that are pretty much taking away my desire for them, but I haven't decided whether to say goodbye and look for another alternative.
Some of the problems I encounter:
1. I'm constantly encountering serious bugs in the Windows PC software.
2. Even with their special "Weekly Discover" feature, it's not like it used to be, more and more songs I don't enjoy listening to and most of them don't really grab me...
3. I don't like all the updates they decided to implement regarding the feature of blocking songs "only in this playlist" and "for 30 days". If I block a song - I want to block it permanently!
