Hi! I've been using ChatGPT with a custom prompt as my primary translator app since it came out. I live in Portugal - and am learning European Portuguese - and have found it to be a far better tool for actually _getting by_ in a foreign language than Google Translate or DeepL. The translation for an appointment can be either "compromisso" and a "consulta", for example, depending on the context. Google and DeepL would take their best guess while my custom prompt instructed ChatGPT to give me back both the translation of the phrase I gave it and also an explanation of the grammar and vocab. The explanation also helps me to learn the language as I go, which I really appreciate. When OpenAI launched GPTs I immediately wrapped my prompt into one. As a GPT, the context window doesn't randomly overflow and its translations are consistently in the form I want - which is: phrase followed by explanation. I've found ChatGPT - and the new GPTs - to be super useful for me so I've created a series of them: European Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Spanish, German and Italian.
