But the thing that actually scares learners is opening your mouth, and you can't practice that with flashcards. So the whole app is one idea: you phone-call a character and just talk. A few things I cared about: 🎙️ It's a real call. No push-to-talk, no typing. The model is speech-to-speech, so replies come back fast and you can interrupt mid-sentence, like a real conversation. 🧠 They remember you. Each character keeps its own memory: your name, your cat, the interview you mentioned last week. The barista doesn't know what you told the taxi driver. 🤫 No mid-sentence corrections. Being corrected while you talk kills your confidence, so the character just keeps the conversation going. When you hang up you get one thing you did well, two lines you could say better, and they're saved to a notebook you can review later. 🎭 24 characters at HSK 1–6. Everyday people (a Shanghai barista, a Beijing cab driver, a first date) plus a few new ones with their own worlds: a cyberpunk netrunner, a Guangzhou rapper, a xianxia swordsman, and a panda for total beginners.
