Snow Day Predictor Canada is a multi-model weather intelligence tool that estimates school closure and bus cancellation probabilities across Canadian regions. It combines Environment Canada data, the GEM forecast model, and a five-factor analysis system including snowfall, wind, freezing rain, extreme cold, and official weather warnings. The platform applies per-province school board behavior patterns to deliver localized, decision-ready snow day predictions for students, parents, and commuters.
We built Snow Day Predictor Canada because winter mornings in Canada often start with uncertainty — parents, students, and bus drivers constantly check multiple sources just to understand if schools might close.
Existing weather apps show forecasts, but they don’t translate weather into real-world decisions like school closures or bus cancellations.
This project started as a simple idea: what if we could model how Canadian school boards actually respond to winter weather?
We combined multi-model forecasts (including Environment Canada’s GEM model), key winter weather signals, and regional school board behavior patterns to create a simple probability-based system.
The goal isn’t to replace official announcements — it’s to help people make better decisions the night before a storm.
We’re excited to share it with the community and would love your feedback 🙌
