Hello Product Hunt Community! We are excited to introduce snippet.run, a script snippet hosting platform that allows you to run snippets on your computer with a single command What is snippet.run snippet.run is a platform that allows you to host your script snippets on the cloud, and run it everywhere using the snippet.run CLI How does it work? You host your script snippets on the cloud and use a CLI to execute them on your computer. When you run a snippet, the CLI will fetch the snippet and execute it on your local machine Feel free to leave comments or questions. Feedback is always appreciated Thank you for your time

@yifanwang very cool idea - I'll check it out!

It's like having your code toolbox ready to go wherever you are.

This looks really interesting. How does dependency management work? E.g. if my snippet requires some npm packages, are they automatically installed?
Yifan Wang
@vincentropy Thanks for checking out our launch! Currently snippet.run does not handle dependencies, you have to handle dependencies manually in your snippet. However, we planned to add support to dependency management and multi-language soon. You will be able to declare dependencies of your snippet. @vincentropy We've added Python and Deno support to snippet.run. You can now create and run Python and Deno snippets. Changelog: https://snippet.run/changelog/py...

Congrats on the launch, this looks quite solid! Here's some feedback since you asked. Wow I have very mixed feelings about this honestly. The security aspect of it primarily, how can I make sure it's going to run what I think it's going to run? What happens if the snippets.run service is compromised? You should definitely add a `--dry-run` option to the CLI client at the very least, so I could see what is about to be executed before going for it. I also wish this was somehow connected to GitHub (more than just for auth) so I could use/import my existing 19 million snippets from Gist. Finally, a lot of snippets I currently use are really boilerplates that aren't meant to be run, but are meant to be built upon, so I would love for snippets.run to be able to download a snippet and pipe its source into a new file for example. Although that might be outside of scope. Anyway, I absolutely love the idea though, good luck!

@kovshenin Thanks for your feedback! For your security concern, you can now upgrade the CLI to the latest version. By default, all snippets run through the CLI will require you to confirm. However, you can use the --allow (-a) flag to bypass the confirmation (snippet run -a owner/snippet) We are working on third party integrations, you will be able to import your GitHub Gists into snippet.run soon. subscribe to our newsletter (You can find a form at the bottom of our homepage) to get notified when we ship this feature

@yifanwang wow that was quick, thank you!

This is really interesting - love the idea of running code on cloud. Curious to know, does your platform support live collaboration on snippets for educational or pair-programming purposes? @yifanwang
Yifan Wang
@anuj_sharma18 Thanks for checking out our launch! Currently there's no plans for live collaboration, but we are currently working on team invites, you will be able to invite your teammates to your snippet.run workspace

@yifanwang Sounds great! ;)
Hey there! snippet.run seems like a really useful platform for hosting and running code snippets. I'm looking forward to the launch of your product. Do you have any advice for someone like me who's about to launch their own product? Also, I'd love to get your feedback once my product is live. Feel free to click on the "Notify" button to get notified when it's ready. Thanks in advance!
